I thought I’d let you know how I got on, on my date last night.

It was a funny week, I hadn’t heard much from him but knew he was busy. I tried not to let my negative thinking dampen my enthusiasm. I wanted to ‘be my best self’ on the night and had my hair done etc. But I had a huge spot appear from nowhere on my chin! I really nearly cancelled. Then I remembered that it’s our little imperfections that make us special.

Anyway we had a really really nice time, as soon as I told him I was a bit nervous, (very good advice Cherry!) he seemed to become less nervous and talk more.

We seem to have quite a lot in common, and I definitely relaxed a lot more in his company after putting into practice what I'd learnt. He has said he will come over to see me tomorrow to make up a flat pack office chair I have just had delivered.

Early days I know, but looking good!

FOLLOW UP QUOTE 5 Months later...

Dear Cherry and to all,

It been 5 months since our workshop and I wanted to send you an update. The chap I had just met when I attended the day – I am still seeing! If you remember I had been single for years so this is really quite an achievement.

We are slowly getting closer, we’ve just done the ‘meeting each other’s friends and family’ thing which went well. Feels like an established relationship now and I’m very happy indeed!

So thanks Cherry, a real success story for me!

When I think back I wonder what has changed in me. I think I had already begun a journey before I attended the workshop, realizing that some of my ideas and beliefs about relationships were outdated and not serving me. After the workshop I resolved to let this chap do the running, to be friendly and responsive but not make it too easy for him, and I think this helped – both for him and me. I didn’t panic when I didn’t hear from him for a week early on when he was on holiday, and basically I have got on with all the things I usually do including going out with my friends and doing fun stuff on my own. When he didn’t get me a valentine’s day card I was able to explain what was going on for me without it sounding like a complaint, and he was able to explain from his perspective. Subsequently I have received flowers and chocs plus Easter gift (even though that’s not his style he did listen and take note!)

I’m also allowing myself to be vulnerable. Various things have been breaking down around the house and I have really needed a man to help, advise and come around to fix stuff, all of which has helped him feel valued and giving me things to be grateful to him for. Previously I would have persevered and solved things by myself – or thrown money at the problem and paid people to mend things.

The upshot is that this feels like a real relationship. I do not have a ‘crush’ on this guy, I really like him and I hope it will develop into something more, I suspect it will!

I have put my picture of my 'vision & goals for a future me' up on my bedroom wall, so it is one of the 1st things I see when I wake up each morning. It's very empowering to look at and keeps me feeling very, very positive about everything.
